We are hiring a Site Safety Officer for a leading construction contractor to be based on a commercial retail project in Clare.

OCS Recruitment is partnering with an established construction and development business with a strong reputation for delivering commercial projects across Ireland. Committed to the highest standards of safety, quality and operational performance, this organisation is now seeking an experienced, site-based Safety Officer for a commercial project in Ennis.

Reporting directly to the Group Health & Safety Director, the Safety Officer will be responsible for providing competent EHS advice and ensuring full compliance with all Health & Safety legislation, company policies, and statutory requirements.

The successful candidate will lead by example, acting as a visible role model onsite and supporting project teams in achieving the highest standards of Health & Safety performance. You will provide active, site-based support to project teams, helping to drive the company's Safety Management System and promoting a proactive, best-practice safety culture.

Role Overview
  • Conduct regular, formal site audits and carry out inspections in line with the Safety Management System
  • Ensure all statutory inspection records are maintained for site activities
  • Deliver Health & Safety induction programmes for new employees and contractors
  • Manage, monitor, and recommend PPE requirements for onsite personnel
  • Organise and chair site Safety Meetings
  • Review subcontractors' RAMS & SPA and evaluate their safety compliance
  • Assist Site Management in drafting and communicating Method Statements
  • Maintain and communicate the site Emergency Plans
  • Conduct preliminary accident investigations, keeping the Group Health & Safety Director updated
  • Ensure First Aiders are available on site and that all required supplies and certifications are up to date
  • Collate and prepare all relevant information for inclusion in the project Safety File for client handover
What we are looking for
  • Health & Safety Certificate, Diploma or Degree is essential
  • Minimum 3 years' onsite Safety Officer experience in the construction industry
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to act as a visible safety leader on site
  • Strong knowledge of Irish health & safety legislation and construction regulations
  • Capable of conducting audits, inspections and incident investigations
  • Self-sufficient, proactive, and able to work effectively with site teams and subcontractors
