The Client
My Client are a leading Civil Engineering Contractor who are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Setting Out Engineer to work on projects across County Mayo.

The successful candidate will be responsible for setting out, surveying and monitoring construction works to ensure they are delivered accurately and in accordance with engineering drawings, project specifications and quality standards.

Working closely with the Site Manager, Project Manager and site teams, you will play a key role in the delivery of civil engineering and infrastructure works, ensuring accuracy, quality and programme requirements are maintained throughout each project.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out setting out and surveying activities in accordance with approved construction drawings and specifications.
• Establish and maintain site control points, benchmarks, gridlines, levels and survey control networks.
• Set out foundations, drainage systems, ducting, roads, kerbing, earthworks and other civil engineering elements as required.
• Use surveying equipment, including total stations, GPS/GNSS and laser levels, to ensure accurate positioning and levels.
• Interpret engineering drawings, site plans, coordinates and technical specifications.
• Check dimensions, levels, alignment and tolerances throughout the construction process.
• Undertake as-built surveys and maintain accurate survey records and site documentation.
• Liaise with site management, subcontractors, designers and the wider engineering team to resolve technical queries and discrepancies.
• Monitor construction works to ensure compliance with design requirements, quality procedures and project specifications.
• Assist with the preparation of site reports, inspection records, measurements and quality assurance documentation.
• Identify and report potential engineering issues, discrepancies or deviations from approved drawings.
• Support the coordination of site activities to ensure works progress in line with project programmes.
• Maintain surveying equipment and ensure it is properly calibrated and fit for purpose.
• Adhere to all site health and safety procedures and promote safe working practices.

Requirements

• Degree, diploma or relevant qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering or a related discipline.
• Previous experience in a Setting Out Engineer or Site Engineer role within civil engineering or groundworks.
• Strong knowledge of setting out techniques, surveying principles and construction drawings.
• Experience using total stations, GPS/GNSS equipment, laser levels and associated surveying technology.
• Good understanding of earthworks, drainage, foundations, roadworks and general civil engineering activities.
• Ability to work independently, manage priorities and meet project deadlines.
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with site teams and subcontractors.
• Full, valid driving licence and eligibility to work in Ireland.

Desirable Experience

• Experience on roads, utilities, drainage, renewable energy, industrial or infrastructure projects.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD, Civil 3D or other relevant engineering software.
• Experience preparing as-built surveys and quality assurance documentation.
• Knowledge of Irish construction standards, specifications and site safety requirements.
