Job Description

Senior Engineer

  • London
  • Permanent / Full Time
  • £340.00 - £360.00 Per DAY (GBP)
  • 21 Oct 2026
OCS are currently recruiting for an established and highly respected main contractor that is looking to appoint an experienced Senior Engineer to join their London team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong Senior Engineer who has experience delivering complex substructure and superstructure packages, ideally with a background in cut & carve / complex refurbishment schemes.
This is not a role for someone looking purely for straightforward new-build work. The projects require strong engineering knowledge, attention to detail and the ability to work through complex construction challenges in live and constrained environments.

THE OPPORTUNITY
You'll play a key role in the technical delivery of major and technically challenging projects, working closely with the Project Manager, Design Team, Site Management and specialist subcontractors.
Your responsibilities will include:
  • Managing engineering activities across substructure and superstructure
  • Setting out and dimensional control
  • Reviewing drawings, specifications and design information
  • Managing technical queries and design coordination
  • Working closely with temporary works and specialist subcontractors
  • Ensuring works are delivered in accordance with design and specification
  • Identifying and resolving technical issues on site
  • Supporting programme and construction planning
  • Managing technical documentation and inspection processes
  • Coordinating interfaces between existing structures and new construction
  • Working within complex and constrained construction environments

EXPERIENCE WE'RE LOOKING FOR
The key requirement for this position is complex engineering experience.
You'll ideally have a background that includes:
  • Strong substructure experience
  • Strong superstructure experience
  • Reinforced concrete / structural frame experience
  • Experience working on technically complex construction projects
  • Cut & carve experience is highly desirable
  • Experience working around existing structures and live buildings
  • Strong understanding of construction sequencing and methodology
  • Experience coordinating multiple design and engineering interfaces
  • Good understanding of temporary works
  • Excellent technical and problem-solving ability
  • Strong communication and coordination skills
  • Relevant Civil Engineering / Structural Engineering qualification
CUT & CARVE EXPERIENCE If you've worked on cut & carve schemes, this role could be particularly relevant.
The successful candidate will need to understand the engineering challenges associated with altering existing structures, working within constrained sites and carefully sequencing demolition, temporary works and new structural construction.
Experience of working in live or heavily constrained urban environments would be highly advantageous.

WHY CONSIDER IT?
This is an opportunity to work on genuinely complex engineering projects rather than repetitive standard construction.
You'll be exposed to challenging substructure and superstructure works, complex interfaces and projects where engineering input is critical to successful delivery.
The role would suit a Senior Engineer who enjoys being hands-on, technically involved and close to the construction process, and who wants to work alongside experienced project and engineering teams. Apply Now
