We are currently seeking an experienced Purchasing Executive to join a leading construction organisation based in Galway. This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded purchasing professional to join an established team and play a key role in supporting procurement activities across a range of construction projects.
 
The Role
Reporting to the senior procurement team, the Purchasing Executive will be responsible for supporting the efficient and cost-effective procurement of materials, plant, equipment and services. You will work closely with project teams, suppliers and subcontractors to ensure requirements are sourced competitively and delivered in line with project timelines.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Manage day-to-day purchasing activities across multiple construction projects.
  • Source materials, products and services from approved and new suppliers.
  • Obtain and analyse supplier quotations, ensuring best value is achieved.
  • Negotiate pricing, terms and delivery schedules with suppliers.
  • Raise and manage purchase orders, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company procedures.
  • Monitor supplier performance, lead times and delivery schedules.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers.
  • Work closely with Quantity Surveyors, Project Managers, Site Teams and other internal stakeholders.
  • Assist with the identification and evaluation of new suppliers.
  • Maintain accurate purchasing records and procurement documentation.
  • Support cost-saving and value-engineering initiatives.
  • Ensure procurement activities are aligned with project programmes and commercial requirements.
  • Assist with resolving any supplier, delivery or purchasing issues that arise.
Requirements
  • Previous experience in a purchasing, procurement or buying role, ideally within the construction sector.
  • Strong commercial awareness and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
  • Good organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to purchasing.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Experience working with procurement or ERP systems would be advantageous.
  • A relevant qualification in Procurement, Supply Chain, Business, Construction or a related discipline is desirable.
