Health & Safety Advisor
OCS Recruitment is partnering with a leading construction contractor to recruit a Health & Safety Advisor. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated health and safety professional to join a growing team and play a key role in promoting a strong safety culture across multiple construction projects.
Working closely with the Senior Health & Safety Manager, site management, and project teams, you will support the implementation and continuous improvement of health and safety systems, ensuring compliance with legislation and company standards while helping to maintain safe working environments across all sites.
Key Responsibilities
Health & Safety Compliance
- Support compliance with all relevant health and safety legislation, regulations, and industry standards.
- Assist with implementing and monitoring company health and safety policies and procedures.
- Provide guidance and support to site management in meeting their health and safety responsibilities.
- Promote a proactive and positive safety culture across all project teams.
Risk Management
- Review subcontractor Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) under the guidance of the Senior Health & Safety Manager.
- Assist in ensuring suitable and sufficient risk assessments are in place for all site activities.
- Support the development and implementation of safe systems of work and method statements.
- Monitor compliance with site safety procedures and safe working practices.
- Ensure appropriate PPE and safety equipment are available, correctly used, and properly documented.
Site Inspections & Audits
- Carry out regular site inspections and health & safety audits.
- Identify hazards, unsafe practices, and opportunities for improvement.
- Assist in tracking and closing out corrective actions.
- Report inspection findings, trends, and recommendations to the Senior Health & Safety Manager.
Training & Safety Culture
- Promote health and safety awareness among employees and subcontractors.
- Assist with coordinating health and safety training programmes.
- Deliver or support site inductions, toolbox talks, and safety briefings.
- Encourage continuous improvement in health and safety performance across projects.
Incident Management
- Assist with accident, incident, and near-miss investigations.
- Maintain accurate incident records in accordance with legal and company requirements.
- Support the implementation of corrective and preventative actions.
- Assist in maintaining emergency response procedures and responding to site health and safety concerns.
Reporting & Documentation
- Maintain accurate health and safety records and documentation.
- Prepare reports and updates for the Senior Health & Safety Manager.
- Support internal and external audits, inspections, and compliance reviews.
- Ensure all required documentation is completed accurately and submitted on time.
Requirements
- Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health & Safety or a related discipline.
- Previous experience in a Health & Safety role within the construction industry.
- Good understanding of construction health and safety legislation and best practices.
- Experience conducting site inspections, audits, and incident investigations.
- Ability to review risk assessments and method statements.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships across all levels of a project team.
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and health & safety reporting systems.
- Valid driver's licence and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
