We are partnering with a well-established and renowned, multi-disciplined specialist civils subcontractor. They are seeking an experienced Group Health & Safety Director to lead and shape the company’s health, safety, and compliance strategy across the organisation.

This is a senior leadership appointment offering the opportunity to influence safety culture at a strategic level while ensuring best-in-class standards are maintained across a diverse portfolio of projects and services. Candidates from both subcontracting and principal contracting backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

The Role As Group Health & Safety Director, you will take overall responsibility for the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the company’s health, safety, and compliance framework across all divisions.


  • Lead and implement the group-wide Health & Safety strategy, ensuring alignment with business objectives and industry best practice.
  • Provide strategic leadership and direction to the Health & Safety function across multiple divisions.
  • Manage and develop the HSE team, supporting professional growth and ensuring effective delivery across projects.
  • Work closely with senior leadership and operational teams to embed a proactive safety culture.
  • Ensure full compliance with UK Health & Safety legislation, industry regulations, and company policies.
  • Drive continuous improvement in safety performance, including incident reduction, reporting standards, and risk management processes.
  • Lead internal and external audits, investigations, and compliance reviews where required.
  • Develop and maintain robust policies, procedures, and safety management systems.
  • Act as the company’s senior safety representative for clients, regulators, and external stakeholders.
  • Support the business in maintaining and enhancing industry accreditations and standards.

We are looking for senior Health & Safety professionals with strategic experience in construction, civil engineering, or specialist contracting environments. Both subcontracting and principal contracting experience will be considered.
  • Extensive Health & Safety leadership experience within construction, civil engineering, or specialist contracting sectors
  • Chartered status (CMIOSH) or working towards chartership strongly preferred
  • Proven experience leading and developing Health & Safety teams
  • Strong understanding of UK Health & Safety legislation and regulatory frameworks
  • Ability to influence senior stakeholders and operational teams
  • Track record in driving cultural change and continuous improvement in safety performance
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and strategic planning skills
