OCS are currently recruiting for an established RC Frame subcontractor with a turnover of circa £40m, who are looking to appoint a Lead Commercial professional to strengthen and develop their commercial function.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor who is ready to take the next step into a Commercial Manager-level position.
The business is open to someone who may not have held the Commercial Manager title previously, but who has the experience, commercial ability and ambition to step up.
THE OPPORTUNITY As the Lead Commercial professional, you'll play a key role in managing and developing the commercial function across the business, working closely with senior management and operational teams.
You'll have responsibility for:
- Leading the commercial management of RC Frame projects
- Managing and mentoring the wider QS/commercial team
- Overseeing project cost management and reporting
- Managing valuations, applications for payment and final accounts
- Leading variations, change control and commercial negotiations
- Managing subcontractor and supplier accounts
- Identifying commercial risks and opportunities
- Reviewing project performance and forecasting
- Working closely with operational teams to maximise project performance
- Supporting senior management with commercial strategy
- Developing commercial processes and best practice across the business
- Building strong relationships with clients and supply-chain partners
This is a role where you'll have genuine influence over the commercial performance of the business.
WHO I'M LOOKING FOR
I'm particularly interested in speaking with experienced Senior Quantity Surveyors who are ready for their next challenge. You'll ideally have:
- Strong experience within RC Frame / Reinforced Concrete subcontracting
- Proven experience as a Senior QS / Lead QS
- Experience managing the commercial side of significant RC Frame projects
- Strong knowledge of valuations, variations, change management and final accounts
- Good contractual and commercial understanding
- Experience managing or mentoring other QSs would be advantageous
- Strong cost reporting and forecasting ability
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills
- Strong commercial awareness
- The confidence to work closely with senior management
- The ambition to step into a Commercial Manager-level role
WHY CONSIDER THIS ROLE? This is the key attraction. The business is open to an experienced Senior QS who is ready to step up.
You don't necessarily need to have spent years as a Commercial Manager. If you've reached the point where you're already operating at a senior level, managing significant packages and feel you're ready to take ownership of a wider commercial function, this could be an excellent next move.
You'll be joining an established RC Frame subcontractor with circa £40m turnover, giving you the opportunity to have a meaningful impact on the commercial operation without becoming lost within a huge corporate structure.
You'll have the opportunity to:
✔ Step up from Senior QS to Commercial Manager level
✔ Take the commercial lead within an established £40m business
✔ Work directly with senior management
✔ Influence commercial strategy and processes
✔ Lead and develop the wider commercial team
✔ Play a key role in the company's continued growth
