An established and fast-growing civil engineering and groundworks contractor is looking to appoint an experienced Buyer to join their commercial and procurement team in Essex.

This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated procurement professional with at least 2 years’ buying experience to play a key role in supporting major construction and infrastructure projects across London and the South East.
The business delivers complex groundworks, RC frame, infrastructure and civil engineering schemes, working on high-profile developments with a strong reputation for quality, safety and delivery excellence. 

The Role Reporting into the Procurement Manager / Commercial Team, the Buyer will be responsible for sourcing materials, negotiating with suppliers, managing purchase orders and ensuring projects are supplied efficiently and cost-effectively.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Procuring construction materials, plant and subcontract services
  • Building and maintaining strong supplier relationships
  • Negotiating prices, lead times and supply agreements
  • Monitoring market trends and supplier performance
  • Raising and managing purchase orders
  • Ensuring materials are delivered on time and within budget
  • Working closely with site teams, commercial teams and suppliers
  • Supporting cost-saving initiatives across projects
  • Maintaining accurate procurement records and documentation
Requirements
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a Buyer / Procurement role
  • Experience within construction, civil engineering or groundworks preferred
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills
  • Commercially aware with excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple suppliers and deadlines
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and procurement systems
  • Full UK driving licence preferred
