Health & Safety Manager Location: Tipperary (with ad hoc travel to Westmeath and Europe — including Italy and Germany)
About the Role OCS Recruitment is seeking an experienced
Health & Safety Manager to join a respected Irish engineering contractor delivering large-scale mechanical and electrical projects across Ireland and Europe.
This is a key leadership role within the organisation’s Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) function, supporting workshop operations in Tipperary and project sites in
Westmeath, Italy, and Germany. The successful candidate will be instrumental in developing and maintaining a strong, proactive safety culture across all operations while ensuring compliance with Irish and EU regulations, client standards, and internal policies.
Key Responsibilities Health & Safety Management - Lead and implement company-wide health, safety, and environmental systems across workshop and project environments.
- Carry out regular inspections, audits, and risk assessments, driving continuous improvement in safety performance.
- Investigate incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and ensuring effective corrective actions.
- Maintain compliance with Irish and European legislation, as well as client-specific safety requirements.
EHS Team Leadership - Manage and support a small EHS team consisting of one EHS Advisor and one EHS Administrator.
- Provide leadership, mentoring, and operational guidance to ensure consistent safety standards across all sites.
- Promote a proactive, collaborative safety culture throughout the business.
Training & Development - Coordinate and deliver safety training, inductions, and toolbox talks for employees and subcontractors.
- Monitor staff competencies and maintain accurate training records.
Project & Client Interface - Collaborate with project management, engineering, and client teams to ensure safety is embedded in all stages of project delivery.
- Represent the company at client and contractor safety meetings, particularly for data centre and M&E projects.
Documentation & Reporting - Maintain and develop safety documentation including safety statements, risk assessments, and method statements.
- Prepare monthly EHS reports and performance updates for senior management.
Qualifications & Experience Essential: - Level 7 or higher qualification in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, or related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a Health & Safety role within engineering, M&E, or construction.
- Proven experience working on data centre projects (Ireland or Europe).
- Excellent understanding of Irish and EU H&S legislation and standards.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Flexibility to travel occasionally to project sites in Ireland and mainland Europe.
Desirable: - Background in mechanical and electrical (M&E) environments.
- Experience with ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and environmental management systems.
- Level 7 or higher diploma or degree within Occupational Health & Safety.
