The Client
This established civil engineering and groundworks contractor work closely with some of the UK’s most prominent housing developers to support large-scale residential-led strategic sites, offering self-delivery civil engineering, infrastructure, and groundwork solutions that reduce risk and increase on-site efficiency.
  
The Role
We are seeking a confident and driven Quantity Surveyor with at least 3 years of experience in the groundworks and civil engineering sector. You will play a key role in managing project finances, ensuring value for money, and delivering commercially successful outcomes on residential and commercial groundwork projects across Bedfordshire and surrounding areas.
  • Manage day-to-day commercial operations across multiple groundworks and civils projects.
  • Prepare and review project budgets, estimates, and cost plans.
  • Measure and value works, including take-offs from drawings and site surveys.
  • Handle subcontractor procurement, payments, and valuations.
  • Monitor variations, prepare change orders, and negotiate final accounts.
  • Support contract management and ensure compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Produce monthly CVRs (Cost Value Reconciliations) and commercial reports.
  • Work closely with site teams to manage project performance and cost control.
  • Attend client and site meetings, providing commercial input as required.
  
The Requirements
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Quantity Surveyor in the groundworks or civils industry.
  • Degree or HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying
  • Solid understanding of civil engineering principles, S278/S38 works, and groundwork packages.
  • Strong working knowledge of contracts (JCT/NEC).
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel and other QS-related software.
  • Excellent attention to detail, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to sites as needed.
  • Experience working with housing developers or large infrastructure projects.
