A leading specialist contractor is looking for a Project Engineer to take ownership of a technically complex cut & carve and structural steel project in Central London. This is a high-profile role, reporting directly to the Project Manager and leading a small team of engineers on-site.

The Role
As Project Engineer, you will be the technical cornerstone of the project, responsible for delivering the engineering scope while managing and mentoring a team of engineers. Your work will ensure that design intent, programme, and quality are fully aligned across the project.
Key responsibilities include:
  • Leading and managing a team of engineers on-site
  • Providing technical guidance and direction on cut & carve, structural steel, and temporary works
  • Reviewing and approving drawings, method statements, and engineering submissions
  • Coordinating with subcontractors, designers, and consultants
  • Ensuring quality, compliance, and adherence to health & safety requirements
  • Monitoring project progress, identifying risks, and proposing mitigation solutions
  • Supporting the Project Manager in programme and resource planning
  • Acting as the first point of escalation for engineering issues
Requirements
  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related field
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a similar project engineer role (managing small teams is essential)
  • Strong technical experience on cut & carve, structural steel, or complex refurbishment projects
  • Ability to read, interpret, and challenge detailed engineering drawings and specifications
  • Proven ability to coordinate multi-disciplinary engineering teams on live, constrained sites
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
  • Proactive, hands-on, and able to deliver results under pressure
