OCS Recruitment is currently seeking a
Junior HSQE Advisor on behalf of our client, a well-established contractor specialising in electrical, water, gas, and minor civil and road improvement projects. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual to develop their career within Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental practices, supporting senior HSQE personnel across multiple projects while gaining hands-on experience in the field.
Key Duties and Responsibilities - Support the delivery of health, safety, quality, and environmental initiatives across project sites.
- Assist in providing basic H&S training such as toolbox talks, safety inductions, and refresher briefings under the guidance of senior HSQE staff.
- Accompany senior team members during safety inspections and audits, assisting with documentation and follow-up actions.
- Help promote a positive safety culture by encouraging safe behaviours and reporting of hazards.
- Assist in compiling incident reports, near-miss data, and other HSQE documentation for review by senior HSQE personnel and management.
- Support the implementation of the company's HSQE policies, procedures, and management systems on site.
- Help maintain HSQE KPIs, records, and logs to support continuous improvement efforts.
- Work closely with site teams to ensure statutory records, site folders, and safety documentation are kept up to date.
- Assist in identifying site-specific hazards and escalating issues to the HSQE Manager or senior advisors.
- Ensure clear communication with senior HSQE personnel regarding any safety concerns or observations.
- Help monitor compliance with site rules and statutory safety requirements.
- Assist with risk assessment development and safe systems of work, guided by senior members of the HSQE team.
- Participate in HSQE audits and support follow-up on any corrective actions.
- Assist with accident/incident investigations by gathering initial information and supporting senior investigators.
- Help identify training needs for site staff and subcontractors and assist in scheduling required training.
- Provide general administrative support for the HSQE function, including ad hoc tasks as required.
Candidate Requirements - A third-level qualification in Health & Safety (or working towards one) is desirable.
- Some experience in construction, utilities, civils, or related environments (internship experience considered).
- Full clean driver's licence.
- Willingness to learn, develop, and progress within HSQE.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Good organisational and time management abilities.
- Confident, enthusiastic, and proactive approach to work.
- Ability to work well as part of a team and follow guidance from senior HSQE personnel.
- Strong attention to detail and respect for confidentiality.
- Ability to build positive working relationships with contractors, site staff, and management.
