Job Title: Health & Safety Officer - Construction Location: West of Ireland Sector: Construction Type: Full-Time | Site-Based
A leading construction recruitment agency is seeking a Health & Safety Officer on behalf of a well-established main contractor operating across the West of Ireland. This is an excellent opportunity for a degree-qualified Health & Safety professional with strong experience in the construction industry who is looking to further develop their career in a site-focused role. You will work closely with a Health & Safety Manager, Contracts Manager, and Director of Construction to help maintain and enhance the company's high safety standards across a variety of ongoing projects in both the public and private sectors.
Key Responsibilities:
Promote and ensure a proactive health and safety culture on-site.
Support the implementation and enforcement of health and safety policies and practices.
Carry out inspections and risk assessments; identify and mitigate potential hazards.
Assist the SHEQ Manager with training needs assessments and safety audits.
Monitor compliance with site safety documentation including RAMS and Safety Statements.
Participate in and support accident and incident investigations and follow-up actions.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date safety records, reports, and documentation.
Conduct site inductions, toolbox talks, and daily briefings as needed.
Liaise with contractors to ensure required documentation is in place and up to date.
Assist with drafting and reviewing tender H&S documentation and prequalification material.
SHEQ Manager (with regular site visits and ongoing support provided)
Ideal Candidate Profile:
Degree in Health & Safety or related discipline (Level 7 or higher preferred)
1-2 years' site-based experience with a main Irish contractor
Familiarity with ISO 9001, 14001, 18001 and SafeT Cert is an advantage
Strong working knowledge of Irish H&S legislation and compliance
Experience in drafting safety documents, risk assessments, and training plans
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; team-oriented
High level of proficiency in MS Office Suite and other standard workplace software
