About the Role
We are seeking a hands-on and motivated Junior health & safety officer to join our clients team supporting a dynamic and innovative mid-sized fit-out and modular construction business in Galway. The successful candidate will assist in delivering high safety standards across complex, fast-track, off-site construction projects—ranging from interior fit-outs to modular building units.
 
Responsibilities
  • Assist the Health & Safety team in implementing and maintaining Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) systems across site and off-site (factory) environments.
  • Conduct regular site and workplace inspections—including manufacturing and assembly areas—to identify hazards, ensure compliance, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Help manage site-based risk assessments, method statements, and tool-box talks; support incident investigations and corrective action tracking.
  • Collaborate with operations and project teams to ensure safe systems of work and compliance with ISO standards and environmental regulations.
  • Support inductions, safety briefings, and onsite safety training for employees and subcontractors.
  • Monitor and report HSE metrics—near misses, incidents, audits, and actions—to ensure data-driven improvement.
  • Assist in maintaining documentation, records, and certifications for audits and inspections; support the rollout of new safety initiatives.
  • Participate in internal audits or external assessments when required.
Requirements
  • Internship/work placement within a Health & Safety role
  • NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent health & safety qualification).
  • Familiarity with applicable Irish H&S legislation, ISO 45001 (or ISO 14001) frameworks, and environmental health best practices.
  • Strong observational and analytical skills with a proactive, collaborative mindset.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities—capable of leading safety briefings and influencing site-based teams.
  • Well-organized with keen attention to detail and record-keeping skills.
  • Relevant site safety accreditation—e.g. Safe Pass or SSSTS—is advantageous.
  • Ability to work on-site across the Galway region and at off-site manufacturing facilities in Co. Galway.
