OCS Recruitment is currently seeking an experienced Health and Safety Advisor on behalf of our client, a well-established contractor specialising in electrical, water, gas, and minor civil and road improvement projects. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the delivery of projects across all areas of the business from a Health & Safety perspective. A strong focus on compliance, reporting, documentation, and maintaining the highest standards of safety is essential.
 
Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide health and safety training to employees, including but not limited to manual handling, toolbox talks, and safety inductions.
  • Conduct safety inspections and audits as required.
  • Promote a proactive approach to accident prevention and environmental protection, implementing effective measures to enhance safety, health, and environmental standards and awareness.
  • Assist in preparing occurrence reports and compiling statistical data for management.
  • Implement the company's health, safety, and environmental policies, procedures, and management systems.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of Health & Safety KPIs to support continuous improvement.
  • Support management in the development of H&S procedures, policies, and programmes.
  • Work collaboratively as part of the HSQE team to ensure a safe and productive working environment.
  • Continuously seek practical ways to elevate Health & Safety standards within the management system and on project sites.
  • Monitor and enforce the implementation of the Health & Safety Management System.
  • Identify site-specific hazards and ensure they are addressed in site documentation and through practical on-site solutions.
  • Maintain clear communication with the Health & Safety Manager.
  • Ensure site folders and statutory records are kept up to date.
  • Enforce strict adherence to site rules by all personnel.
  • Support site management in complying with statutory H&S requirements.
  • Assist the Health & Safety Manager in developing and implementing risk assessments and enhancements to Safe Systems of Work.
  • Coordinate safe systems of work in conjunction with the H&S Manager and site management teams.
  • Conduct on-site H&S audits and work with site management and contractors to address any non-conformances.
  • Participate in accident and incident investigations.
  • Identify training needs for both company personnel and contractors.
  • Carry out ad hoc tasks as required by the business.
Candidate Requirements
  • Full, clean driver's licence is essential.
  • A third-level qualification in Health & Safety is desirable.
  • Experience in civils, drainage, or utilities (water and electricity) is preferred.
  • Confident, motivated, and able to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
  • Strong time-management skills.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service abilities.
  • High level of integrity and respect for confidentiality.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with the ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders and statutory bodies.
  • Proven ability to manage risk and implement appropriate control measures.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with contractors across various backgrounds and trades.
