Health & Safety Officer - Civil Engineering (Western Region) We are seeking a proactive Health & Safety Officer to join a leading civil engineering contractor working on major roadworks projects in the Western Region. This role is pivotal in promoting a strong safety culture and ensuring environmental compliance across all site operations.
What You'll Need: - 3rd level qualification in Health & Safety (essential)
- Experience in civil engineering or construction safety (roadworks experience an advantage)
- Strong knowledge of relevant Health, Safety & Environmental legislation
- Understanding and practical application of ISO 14001 & OHSAS 45001
- Excellent organisational, communication, and report-writing skills
- Good IT proficiency
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative project team
- Skilled at building strong working relationships with site teams, management, and external bodies (HSA, EPA, etc.)
- Full driving licence (company vehicle provided)
Key Responsibilities: - Lead site safety meetings, inductions, and toolbox talks
- Manage all on-site health, safety, and environmental activities
- Conduct EHS risk assessments and audits
- Investigate and report on accidents, incidents, and near misses
- Review and approve method statements and risk assessments
- Ensure continuous safety management and compliance across the project
- Carry out internal safety audits and support external inspections
- Work closely with the Contracts Manager and site teams to integrate safety into all stages of the project
