OCS Recruitment is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Health & Safety Manager for a leading civil engineering and construction organisation in Ireland. This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive professional to take ownership of health and safety across multiple projects, ensuring compliance with legislation, best practice, and organisational standards.
The successful candidate will be based in Dublin with regular travel to project sites in Cork, supporting a team of site personnel and management in delivering projects safely and efficiently.
 
Key Responsibilities Site-Based Responsibilities
  • Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and safety walks to monitor compliance and identify risks.
  • Ensure the completion of accurate and timely health & safety records and reports.
  • Identify hazards and raise corrective and preventative actions (CAPAs) where required.
  • Deliver safety inductions, Toolbox Talks (TBTs), and training for employees and contractors.
  • Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses; maintain records and assist in implementing preventive measures.
Desk-Based Responsibilities
  • Develop, review, and maintain company Health & Safety policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Prepare and maintain Risk Assessments, Method Statements, and Safe Systems of Work for site activities.
  • Monitor compliance with Irish health & safety legislation, ISO standards, and company requirements.
  • Attend meetings with internal teams, subcontractors, and external stakeholders to communicate health & safety initiatives.
  • Analyse safety performance data to identify trends and recommend improvements.
Candidate Requirements Essential
  • Diploma, Degree, or equivalent in Health & Safety, Occupational Health & Safety, or related discipline.
  • Minimum of 4 years' experience in a Health & Safety role, ideally within construction or civil engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of Irish health & safety legislation and best practice.
  • Experience conducting audits, site inspections, and preparing risk assessments and method statements.
  • Excellent communication, reporting, and IT skills.
  • Full, clean Irish driving licence with willingness to travel between sites.
Desirable
  • Experience managing subcontractors and liaising with clients on safety matters.
  • Previous exposure to ISO 45001 or similar health & safety management systems.
  • Experience with multi-site project oversight in the civil engineering sector.
