Health & Safety Advisor - Commercial Projects in Clare & Galway
 
About the Role
OCS Recruitment is currently seeking an experienced Health & Safety Advisor on behalf of a well-established main contractor delivering on two major multimillion projects in Clare & Galway.

This is a key appointment for an accomplished safety professional who can oversee all Health & Safety aspects of a large-scale construction site, ensuring the highest standards of compliance, culture, and performance across all project phases.

The successful candidate will take ownership of the site's safety management, working closely with the Project Manager, Site Management Team, and the company's senior leadership to implement, monitor, and continuously improve the company's EHS systems and performance on site.
 
Sites: Shannon & Gort, Head office Galway City.
Please note the role will be predominantly based in Shannon with travel to Gort site & Head Office on occasion.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of the company's Health & Safety Management System on site.
  • Oversee and enforce compliance with statutory obligations, company policies, and best practices in safety management.
  • Carry out regular site audits, inspections, and risk assessments; ensure timely reporting and closure of non-conformances.
  • Prepare, review, and manage site-specific risk assessments, method statements (RAMS), and other safety documentation.
  • Chair site safety meetings, deliver toolbox talks, and promote a strong culture of safety and environmental awareness.
  • Investigate and report on incidents, accidents, and near misses; ensure root cause analysis and preventive actions are implemented.
  • Liaise with subcontractors, clients, consultants, and regulatory bodies on all matters relating to site safety.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and guidance to site teams to maintain consistent high standards.
  • Monitor environmental controls and sustainability practices in line with company objectives and project requirements.
Key Requirements
  • Degree or diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Management, or a related discipline (Level 7+).
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in a Health & Safety role within the construction industry.
  • Demonstrable experience managing safety on large-scale building projects (commercial, educational, or public works).
  • Comprehensive understanding of Irish health, safety, and environmental legislation.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
  • Ability to influence and drive a strong safety culture across diverse site teams.
  • Proficient in compiling reports, audits, and documentation for both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Full, clean driving licence and flexibility to be based on site.
