Job Description: Health & Safety Advisor About the Client Our client is a well-established, plant hire, civil engineering and construction contractor. Their operations encompass multimillion-euro site developments, road and motorway construction, coastal defence works, tunnelling projects, groundworks, demolition, landfill/decontamination and recycling, plus quarrying and soil-stabilisation services
Role Overview We're seeking an experienced
Health & Safety Advisor to drive the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of health and safety protocols across complex, multi-site operations. The ideal candidate will be proactive, detail-oriented, and able to foster a strong safety culture across workshop and field environments.
Key Responsibilities - Develop, implement, monitor, and audit health, safety, and environmental systems aligned with ISO 45001/OHSAS 18001 standards.
- Conduct site-specific risk assessments and safety audits across diverse operations (civil engineering, plant hire, groundworks, demolition, recycling, quarrying, etc.).
- Investigate incidents, near misses, and ensure corrective/preventive action registers are maintained and followed up promptly.
- Advise site and workshop teams on safe working procedures, guarding against risks such as refuelling, plant movement, machinery servicing, and working in low-light or high-traffic environments.
- Deliver and track safety training—including inductions, toolbox talks, equipment-specific competencies, and digital learning modules.
- Support external audits and compliance inspections (e.g., Health & Safety Authority, client audits).
- Engage stakeholders at all levels to promote a positive safety culture—where "Positive Action Prevents" is more than a motto.
- Prepare clear, actionable reporting on safety performance, KPIs, and near-miss trends for senior management.
What we are looking for: - Relevant qualifications (e.g., NEBOSH Certificate or Diploma, IOSH membership, ISO 45001 Lead Auditor/Implementer).
- Solid experience in health & safety within construction, civil engineering, or plant hire environments.
- Demonstrated competence in risk assessment, incident investigation, compliance, and training.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build safety-conscious working relationships with workshop and on-site teams.
Desirable: - Experience working with digital safety platforms, e-learning, or training management systems.
- Prior exposure to heavy plant operations.
- Supervisory or site-level H&S leadership experience.
