The Role
A well-established RC frame and groundworks contractor in East London is looking for an experienced Estimator to join their pre-construction team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in pricing reinforced concrete frame and groundwork packages for residential, commercial, and mixed-use developments. This is a key role in supporting the business’s continued growth through accurate, competitive, and profitable tendering.
  
Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates for RC frame and groundwork projects ranging from £500k to £20m+.
  • Analyse tender documentation including drawings, specifications, and bills of quantities.
  • Liaise with clients, engineers, and subcontractors to clarify project details and scope.
  • Attend tender meetings, site visits, and liaise with internal departments.
  • Build up rates from first principles for labour, plant, materials, and subcontract works.
  • Submit tenders within deadlines and follow up with clients to understand outcomes.
  • Provide value engineering input and alternative solutions where appropriate.
  • Maintain and update estimating databases, cost libraries, and tender documentation.
  • Contribute to post-tender negotiations and handover to the delivery team.
  
The Requirements
  • Minimum 3–5 years of estimating experience in RC frame and/or groundworks.
  • Strong understanding of formwork, falsework, rebar, concrete pours, and site logistics.
  • Competent in interpreting technical drawings, specifications, and structural details.
  • Proficient with estimating software (e.g., ConQuest, Candy, Causeway) and MS Excel.
  • Commercially astute with good negotiation and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced pre-construction environment.
  • Right to work in the UK and based within commuting distance of East London.
  • HNC/Degree in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or Construction Management.
  • Experience pricing for both private and public sector clients.
  • Knowledge of NEC and JCT contract pricing structures.
